Johnny is like fine wine: as it ages it gets better
It was delightful that so many people showed up for this event. Around 7pm, I chose to go early just to observe the elegant NJPAC and the Mathis fans. Many of them were already there, sure enough. I must add that this is probably my 30th Mathis concert. Here is an entertainer (vocalist) who is 86 and has been singing for 65 years. His fans are thrilled and excited to hear Valerie June again, walking with canes, on wheel chairs, and walkers. I travelled from Washington D.C. His performance was as inspiring as it was delightful. Johnny was as dapper as always, and always the gentleman. Slowly, but surely, the crowd increased until at 8:05 pm Johnny appeared. He was greeted by a standing ovation by those of us who could stand. His voice was as velvety as always and he gave us 90 minutes of heaven. My, I felt blessed to see how God has blessed him with a gift that he is still willing to share. It had been rescheduled many times, but the arena was about 70% full.
